When we did get our room, we found out we were in an adjoining room with the couple we traveled with? Their room had a King size bed and ours two doubles with a 4 ft shower head in a tub (the kids room). This was not a problem because it gave us a chance to get a bite to eat and explore. We were early, so we had to wait a couple of hours for our room. Within 30 minutes we were checked in, had our restaurant reservations and a day trip lined up through Lomus Travel. Service when we arrived was excellent! We were greeted with a smile and check-in was speedy. My wife and I traveled with another couple to "The Beach" the first week of March. I am happy to report I wasn't the only one. I took the liberty of feeding them because they were thin and looked malnourished. unfortunately the cats on this resort could be cared for better. :) On a side note: lots of wildlife at this resorts. We did make it a point to tip staff as they work very hard there and also work long hours.
The steakhouse is great! I recommend you book your a la cartes right away- include this one. Beach has a bar and grill open for lunch- lots of seagulls so watch your food! The buffet is good- lots of variety as we had kids and fussy inlaws. The pool is definitely huge- lots of activities there along with 2 swim up bars. The towel exchanges are painless and there seemed to be an abundance of towels available when we went. The staff are polite and very nice- they are happy to help. The rooms at this resort were average and housekeeping maintains them very well, fridges well stocked. It can be quite an adventure and you can get lost if you are not careful. The beach access is hidden from this resort and you have to walk through the pool area to access it. The hotel staff provide you with a map- however it is useless if you don't know where you are because aside from the pool area- which is obvious- nothing is clearly marked. It is almost intolerably huge but if you can walk and enjoy walking you are okay. As a good Canadian family we were optimistic about this resort. It was our first time to MEXICO and first family trip. We chose this resort because it was recommended by our travel agent as we could not do an adults only. My husband and I took a family vacation with the children and my in-laws.

My only suggestion would be if they could provide a Gluten Free dedicated fryer. Even better then a cruise I took with Royal Caribbean. They were very accommodating and I have to say this has been the best vacation since being diagnosed 8 years ago. They even had ready made gluten free sandwiches at the main buffets! Chefs Marcos and Carlos in particular were extremely helpful and understood my concerns. If the buffet was questionable in terms of utensil related cross contamination they were always ready to make something from the back kitchen for me. While dining in the specialty restaurants and the buffets, I presented it to the waiters and they notified the chef who came and met with me to discuss what would be safe. He also emailed it to to all the head chefs with my name and room number. I spoke with Julio and Dafne, who were my own personal heros! Julio typed up a letter in Spanish explaining my 100% gluten free needs and gave me a copy to present at their restaurants. The Iberostar Paraiso Beach resort has everything you could want as a traveler with Celiac Disease! After checking in, present your Gluten Free dining card from home, such as the ones offered on Triumph Dining(I used the Mexican cuisine card) to the concierge and explain your dietary requirements.
